South Pacific Intensive Training Camp with Kancho Matsui
On 22 - 24 March 2024 an Intensive Training Course was conducted by Kancho Shokei Matsui in Sydney Australia.
The event was hosted by Shihan Trevor Tockar and was attended by more than 150 participants mainly from Australia and New Zealand but also including senior practitioners from as far afield as Canada, Romania, Reunion and New Caledonia.
Kancho Matsui was assisted by Shihan Kenny Uytenbogaardt from South Africa, Shihan Stuart Corrigal from Canada and Shihan Gorai from the USA. Preceding the Intensive Training Course a series of seminars was conducted over the week from Monday to Thursday by Shihan Kenny and Shihan Stuart, and on the Friday evening a special training class for Branch Chiefs and Dojo Operators was conducted by Kancho Matsui at the North Bondi dojo.
The Intensive Training Course, which was held at the impressive Paddington Town Hall, was opened with a traditional ‘Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners of the Country’ and didgeridoo performance by Walangari Karntawarra, followed by an opening address by the Japanese Vice-Consul to Australia, Mr Yuta Sekiyama. Over the weekend all aspects of training were covered and culminated in Dan testing for Sandan and above. The event concluded with a very enjoyable Sayonara Party which included a sit-down meal and much celebration.
